Overview: How Funding Works
Polymarket runs on the Polygon blockchain and uses USDC as its sole currency. Every position, payout, and withdrawal is in USDC. To start trading, you need to get USDC onto the Polygon network and into your Polymarket wallet.
The process looks like this:
Fiat (USD/GBP/EUR) → Exchange → USDC (Polygon) → Polymarket wallet → Trade
Deposit Methods Compared
| Method | Speed | Fee | Complexity | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken/Coinbase withdrawal | 5–30 min | ~$0.90–1.50 flat | Medium | Regular deposits, >$50 |
| Polymarket card deposit | Instant | 1.5–3% | Low | Quick top-ups, beginners |
| ChangeNOW swap | 3–10 min | ~0.5–1% | Low | Swapping other crypto to USDC |
| Polygon Bridge | 30–60 min | ETH gas fee | High | Large amounts from ETH mainnet |
Method 1: Via Exchange (Cheapest)
This is the most cost-effective method for regular deposits above $50.
Step-by-step via Kraken
- Create a Kraken account at kraken.com and complete KYC (government ID required). Takes 1–3 days for first-time verification.
- Deposit fiat — fund your Kraken account via bank transfer (free) or card (small fee). Select your currency (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.).
- Buy USDC — go to Trade → search USDC/USD (or your currency pair). Buy the amount you want to deposit on Polymarket. Kraken's trading fee is 0.16–0.26% depending on your tier.
- Get your Polymarket deposit address — log into Polymarket, click your wallet balance in the top right, click Deposit, and copy your Polygon USDC address.
- Withdraw from Kraken — in Kraken, go to Funding → Withdraw → USDC. Paste your Polymarket address. Under "Network," select Polygon. Enter the amount. Kraken charges a flat ~$0.90 withdrawal fee on Polygon. Confirm the withdrawal.
- Wait 5–30 minutes — Kraken processes withdrawals quickly (most within 10 minutes). Polygon confirms in 2–5 minutes after broadcast. Your Polymarket balance updates automatically.

Low fees, reliable withdrawals, ~$0.90 flat fee for Polygon USDC. Trusted since 2011.
Join Kraken →Method 2: Card Deposit (Fastest)
Polymarket has a built-in card deposit flow powered by MoonPay and other on-ramps.
- On Polymarket, click your balance → Deposit → Buy with card
- Enter your debit/credit card details
- Enter the USDC amount you want to deposit
- Confirm — funds arrive in your Polymarket wallet in seconds
Fee: Typically 1.5–3% of the deposit amount, plus a small fixed fee. For a $100 deposit expect $2–4 in fees. Convenient but more expensive than using an exchange.
Method 3: ChangeNOW (Crypto Swap)
If you already hold other crypto (BTC, ETH, SOL, etc.) and want to convert it to USDC on Polygon without going through an exchange:
- Go to ChangeNOW
- Select your source currency (e.g., ETH) and destination: USDC on Polygon
- Paste your Polymarket wallet address as the destination
- Send your crypto to the ChangeNOW deposit address shown
- ChangeNOW handles the swap and sends USDC directly to Polymarket — usually in 3–10 minutes

ChangeNOW: non-custodial, no account required, sends USDC directly to your Polymarket wallet.
Swap Now →⚠️ Critical: The Polygon Network Rule
This is the single most common mistake new Polymarket users make — and it can result in lost funds that are very difficult to recover.
USDC exists on many blockchains — Ethereum mainnet, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Solana, BNB Chain. Polymarket only recognises Polygon. If you send USDC via any other network to your Polymarket address, the funds will not appear and recovery requires technical knowledge of cross-chain bridges.
When withdrawing from any exchange, look for these options and select the correct one:
| What you see in the exchange | Is this correct for Polymarket? |
|---|---|
| Polygon / Polygon PoS / MATIC | ✅ Yes — use this |
| Ethereum / ERC-20 / ETH | ❌ No — do not use |
| Arbitrum / ARB | ❌ No — do not use |
| Optimism / OP | ❌ No — do not use |
| Base | ❌ No — do not use |
| Solana / SOL | ❌ No — do not use |
Do You Need MATIC for Gas?
Polymarket uses meta-transactions for most trading actions — meaning Polymarket pays the gas on your behalf. In practice, most traders can deposit USDC and trade without ever holding MATIC.
If you experience failed transactions (rare but possible), sending $0.50–1.00 worth of MATIC to your wallet will resolve most gas-related issues. You can buy MATIC on any major exchange or swap for it on ChangeNOW.
Deposit Not Showing? Troubleshooting
I sent USDC but it's not in Polymarket after 30 minutes
1. Check PolygonScan — search your wallet address and see if the USDC transaction appears under "Token Transfers." If it does, the funds are in your wallet and Polymarket should update — try refreshing or reconnecting your wallet. If it doesn't appear on PolygonScan, the funds may have been sent on the wrong network. Check the transaction on Etherscan or the relevant chain explorer to confirm what network was used.
I sent on Ethereum mainnet by mistake
If you sent USDC via Ethereum mainnet to your Polymarket address (which is the same address on all EVM chains), the funds are actually in your wallet on Ethereum mainnet — they just can't be seen by Polymarket (which watches Polygon). You can bridge them using the official Polygon Bridge or a fast bridge like Hop Protocol, Across, or Stargate. This requires ETH for gas fees. If the amount is small, the bridge gas cost may not be worth it.
My exchange doesn't offer Polygon withdrawals
If your exchange only offers USDC on Ethereum mainnet, use ChangeNOW to swap your USDC (ERC-20) to USDC (Polygon) and send directly to your Polymarket address. This is the most convenient cross-chain solution without using a bridge.
