Overview: The Withdrawal Process
Polymarket is non-custodial — your USDC lives in your wallet on the Polygon blockchain, not held by any company. Cashing out follows this path:
Polymarket wallet → Exchange deposit address (Polygon USDC) → Sell USDC → Fiat → Bank account
The whole process takes 30–60 minutes for the crypto leg, then 1–3 business days for the bank transfer to land.
Step 1: Withdraw USDC from Polymarket
- On Polymarket, click your balance/portfolio icon (top right)
- Click Withdraw
- Enter the USDC amount to withdraw
- Paste the destination address — this should be your exchange deposit address (see Step 2)
- Confirm the transaction in your wallet (or via email magic link if you use email login)
The withdrawal goes directly on-chain to Polygon. No waiting period — it's self-custody, so Polymarket has no ability to delay or block your withdrawal.
Step 2: Send to an Exchange
You need an exchange account to convert USDC to fiat. Recommended options:
| Exchange | Fiat Options | Polygon USDC? | Bank withdrawal fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken | USD, EUR, GBP, +more | ✅ Yes (~$0.90 flat) | Free (SEPA/ACH); $35 SWIFT |
| Coinbase | USD, EUR, GBP | ✅ Yes (free deposit) | Free ACH; variable SEPA |
| Binance | EUR, GBP, +many | ✅ Yes | Free SEPA; varies by region |
In your exchange:
- Go to Deposit → select USDC
- Select Polygon as the network
- Copy the deposit address shown
- Use this address as the destination in Step 1
Don't Have a Kraken Account Yet?
Kraken offers low trading fees, free SEPA withdrawals, and reliable Polygon USDC deposits. Trusted since 2011.
Join Kraken →Step 3: Sell USDC for Fiat
Once your USDC appears in your exchange account (2–15 minutes after the Polygon transaction confirms):
- Go to Trade (or Spot trading)
- Find the USDC/USD (or USDC/EUR, USDC/GBP) pair
- Place a market sell order for your USDC amount
- USDC is a stablecoin — price is always approximately $1.00, so there's no market risk here
Your fiat balance updates instantly after the trade executes.
Step 4: Withdraw Fiat to Your Bank
- In your exchange, go to Funding → Withdraw → [your currency]
- Select your linked bank account (if first time, add your bank account details — this usually takes 1 business day to verify)
- Enter the amount and confirm
- Funds arrive: SEPA (Europe) 0–2 days; ACH (US) 1–3 days; SWIFT 2–5 days
Full Fee Breakdown
Here's what it actually costs to cash out $500 from Polymarket to a bank account (Kraken example):
| Step | Fee | On $500 |
|---|---|---|
| Polymarket withdrawal (Polygon gas) | ~$0.001 | ~$0.001 |
| Kraken USDC deposit | Free | $0 |
| Kraken USDC→USD trade | 0.16–0.26% | $0.80–$1.30 |
| Kraken USD ACH withdrawal | Free | $0 |
| Kraken EUR SEPA withdrawal | Free | $0 |
| Total (to US/EU bank) | ~$1–2 |
This is remarkably cheap compared to traditional financial intermediaries. The full round-trip (bank → Polymarket → bank) costs approximately $2–5 on a $500 amount.
Tax Considerations
In most countries, your tax obligation is created when a Polymarket contract resolves (the taxable event) — not when you withdraw. Withdrawing USDC to an exchange and then to fiat is not itself a taxable event in most jurisdictions (you're moving the same USDC).
Key points:
- Each winning resolution is typically a capital gain (or ordinary income in some jurisdictions) in the year it occurs
- USDC→USD conversion is generally not taxable (stablecoin pegged to USD, no gain/loss)
- Keep records of all your Polymarket trades — use CoinLedger to automate this via wallet import

My USDC hasn't arrived at the exchange after 30 minutes
Check your Polymarket wallet on PolygonScan to confirm the withdrawal transaction is confirmed on Polygon. If confirmed, check that your exchange deposit address was the correct Polygon network address. Contact your exchange support with the transaction hash (txHash) from PolygonScan.
The exchange doesn't show my USDC as available to sell
Some exchanges have a short hold period on newly deposited crypto (typically 0–2 hours). Check the exchange's "Funds on hold" or "Pending" section. If the deposit doesn't appear at all after 30 minutes, contact exchange support with the Polygon transaction hash.
I want to hold USDC long-term instead of converting to fiat
USDC can earn yield on DeFi platforms like Aave or through centralised services. However, do your own research on counterparty risk. If you simply want to hold and occasionally top up Polymarket, keeping USDC in your Polygon wallet or a hardware wallet (Ledger supports Polygon USDC) is safe and free.
Keep Your USDC Secure with Ledger
Ledger hardware wallets support Polygon USDC. Keep your winnings in cold storage between trades.
